IRON BENCH , Circa 1860

A 19th Century Cast Iron bench, attributed to the Carron Foundry, Falkirk, Scotland.

Height: 90cm
Seat Height: 46cm
Width: 145cm
Depth: 54cm

Dealer’s Comment:
I think this one was made by the Scottish foundry Carron Iron Works in Falkirk.
I’ve always loved this bench design. I first saw one at the Sir John Soane's Museum and have tried to buy good examples whenever I can. They’re normally painted white, which appeals to me slightly less but understandable for a garden setting.
This example has lost its old green paint and now has a wonderfully worn iron surface.
I’d place this bench just as happily inside a hall as out in a garden.

Comparable example - Sir John Soane Museum
Museum number: XF290
£ 3,850.00
