George III Coat of Arms
A carved and painted Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom
English, George III period, circa 1801 - 1816
A particularly atmospheric example retaining traces of its original polychrome decoration and gilding.
The shield displays the short-lived 1801–1816 Royal Arms used during the reign of George III, including the Hanoverian escutcheon with electoral bonnet, allowing the piece to be dated to the Napoleonic period.
The carving has a wonderfully vernacular quality and great character throughout.
Provenance - Private collection, UK, since the 1990s.
