Giltwood Sofa , XVIII Century
A striking Neo-Classical Italian sofa , circa 1770 - 1800
The arms present as powerful monopodia Lion supports with an additional two corresponding paw feet to the front - creating a sofa with a commanding presence.
The original gilding survives with an honest surface, lightly cleaned and restored by us and newly upholstered in a neutral herringbone linen.
The combination of sculptural lion monopodia and disciplined crisp acanthus carving leads to a likely Roman workshop of the late 18th century.
