Marble Basin
An ancient marble basin later adapted as a font upon a 15th/16th century pedestal.

The circular marble basin carved with a later framed Latin inscription rom Isaiah, flanked by scrolling ribbon bands, on a Renaissance pedestal with scallop shells, ribbons and anthemion ornament above a fluted column base.
Inscribed: "ANTE Q. PARTVRIRET. PEPERET. ESAIA. C. VI" - a verse from Isaiah 66:7: "Before she was in labour, she gave birth."
Provenance: Henry J. Taylor (1902-1984) U.S Ambassador to Switzerland; by descent to Mrs Marion Taylor; private collection USA, acquired 2009.
