Table Cabinet , XIX Century
A 19th Century Specimen Marble Table Cabinet
Italian, first half 19th century
Height: 46cm | Width: 72cm | Depth: 30cm
A finely made table cabinet in deeply ebonised walnut - now beautifully worn to a deep worn ebony..... with twelve drawers each faced with a framed panel of specimen marble.
Likely made in Italy in the earlier part of the 19th century its architectural form and carefully chosen stones suggest it was intended for a collector.
The marbles include verde antico, alabastro fiorito and a red breccia, possibly rosso di Levanto.
Cabinets of this type were often used in studioli or collector’s interiors, valued both for their practical storage and for the display of rare and decorative items.
