This monumental engraved panorama presents an extraordinary bird's-eye view of Rome from the Janiculum Hill. Printed from twelve copperplates and joined to form one vast composition, it records the Eternal City in remarkable detail, with an extensive index identifying hundreds of churches, palaces, monuments and ancient sites below.

Produced in 1765, the panorama is widely regarded as Giuseppe Vasi's masterpiece and ranks amongst the most ambitious topographical prints of the eighteenth century.

Presented in its historic (19th century) glazed rosewood frame with an engraved presentation plaque reading 'Rome 1765. Presented by Arthur Atkins Esq.'
Provenance:
Presented by Arthur Atkins Esq. (as recorded on the presentation plaque).

Italian Cultural Institute, London, where the print was formerly displayed.

Retains an early Thomas M'Lean, Printseller & Publisher, 7 Haymarket, London, label to the reverse. Thomas M'Lean (active early 19th century) was one of London's leading print publishers.
