George III Serpentine Chest
A George III Serpentine Mahogany Chest
English, circa 1760
A particularly good mid-18th century serpentine chest of compact proportions, veneered in richly figured mahogany with excellent colour and a wonderfully well-patinated surface throughout. The four long graduated drawers retain their original flowing serpentine form and are fitted with the original decorative drop handles and escutcheons.
The chest stands particularly well on pronounced shaped bracket feet, giving the piece a strong architectural presence despite its relatively compact scale.
