Porphyry Tazze
A Pair of Small Italian Porphyry Tazze
Rome, Circa 1810-20
Each carved with a lobed wavy rim and slender stem, in richly coloured Imperial porphyry.
Height: 20cm
Each finely carved in deep purple Imperial Porphyry, with a lobed and undulating rim over a slender waisted stem and circular foot. The bowl's scalloped form catches the light beautifully, accentuating the speckled crystalline structure characteristic of true Imperial porphyry.
These miniature tazze recall the refined taste of early 19th century Rome, when cabinet pieces in rare stones were priced by collectors and Grand Tour patrons alike.
