Shellwork Grotto Mirror, C.1900
A wonderful example of shellwork in this early 20th century Italian grotto mirror- this type of shell decoration became popular in Italy during the Renaissance.
This example dates to the late 19th /early 20th century.
The mirror plate is original and there's minimal losses to the shells (we had to restore 2 or 3).
